If my Oil filter is completely sludged up, will my Oil pressure always show in the Bypass range?

It gets to 40Psi Hot at Idle, and goes Straight to 65-75 Psi, even Hot, all other times.

I do not know how to change just my Filter.

Is it Bypassed and Sludged, the Filter? Should i change the oil at the same time as well?

I fear that the filter i bought may not be the same size it listed twp different numbers and it looks different than what came out of my car, and then id be in trouble due to losing oil and no Filter.

Car is 1985 Jaguar 4.2L, filter i picked up is a Bosch 72209.

Where is the filter on my Jag, and how do i change just it? How much oil will i need to replace if Just the Filter? If my Oil filter is completely sludged up, will my Oil pressure always show in the Bypass range? In the ones I've seen, it's on the right side of the engine, near the middle, down by the edge of the oil pan. Older ones were a canister type, newer ones use a spin-on type. I doubt the filter is sludged up. If it is, then so is the whole engine. By the way, it holds about 8.5 quarts. If my Oil filter is completely sludged up, will my Oil pressure always show in the Bypass range? It is Possible. If my Oil filter is completely sludged up, will my Oil pressure always show in the Bypass range?Have your Jaguar dealer change your engine oil next time and then sleep soundly!!If my Oil filter is completely sludged up, will my Oil pressure always show in the Bypass range?i dont know much about that car but as the car warms up the oil press drops down not climbs up. if i changed the filter i would change the oil too. and how do you know the filter is full of sludge? it could be something else. oil pumps have this spring valve in them that doesnt let the oil press go up a certain psi. if the valve failed then you could have too much press or too little. If my Oil filter is completely sludged up, will my Oil pressure always show in the Bypass range?just do a complete oil change you should be able to find the correct oil filter on www.penzoil.com and your owners manual should show where you filter is located on the car if you have a doubt just take it to the dealers for like 30 bucks to have a oil change doneIf my Oil filter is completely sludged up, will my Oil pressure always show in the Bypass range?ok so your defiantly gunna wanna change your oil filter if it is sludged up. you wanna change your oil filter every time you change your oil and if you go to auto zone or any parts store all you have to do is tell them the make, modle, and year and what part you want and youll get the right one.If my Oil filter is completely sludged up, will my Oil pressure always show in the Bypass range?Usually you should always put the same kind of filter you previously had, if you say you don't think you have the right one try taking a look at the other available filter see if it matches the one you previously had, your oil filter should not be hard to find look under your car and it will be somewhere in the engine bay most likely on the engine i'm guessing it's a simple screw on type. Then look for you oil pan it's usually the very last thing at the bottom of the engine closest to the ground and it will have a bolt on the edge of it. Usually a pretty good size like 17mm or 11/16 drain all the oil in a pan look at the color if the oil it should not be pitch black and mud like. if you think your engine is really sludged up try using an engine flush, it's just a bottle you add to the oil let the car idle for 10-15 mins and then flush the oil and it picks up or dissolves most of the sludge. Remove your filter, put some fresh oil on the rubber gasket of the new one to make sure it's sealed tight and screw it back in, I like to sit the filter down and then do a 3/4 to 1 turn to tighten, then put the oil pan bolt back on refill the engine with fresh oil, you have an inline 6 i believe, so you should need approximately 3.5 to 5 Liters of oil. put it about 3 liters and then check your stick and keep filling checking regularly, make sure you use a good quality oil and filter as it will definitely help your sludge problem, Hope this helps.
