How many quarts of oil do you need for a 95 dodge intrepid after an oil change?

I just got an oil change done on my 95 dodge intrepid 2 days ago. It hasnt went anywhere due to needing a new thermostat. but when we went to check the oil today after the red check engine light came on , no oil was showing up on the dipstick. We put a new oil filter in, and 5 quarts of oil.. Did we not put enough in? As for why the engine is low on oil, maybe you have a leak or the engine didn't get full at the last service...
