How necessary is it to change the oil filter everytime you change the oil?

I use semi-synthetic oil, which is good for about 10000 km (15000 miles?). But the last time, I told them not to change the oil filter. %26quot;There's no ned to change it verytime%26quot;, I said. Now I'm worried about it. Can I have real problems because of it? Should I go and chnage the filter before something wrong happens? Or is it just a detail and you don't really have to change it everytime you cnage the oil? Thanks.How necessary is it to change the oil filter everytime you change the oil?It's false economy not to change it. You're talking under $10 at the most. (More likely $3 to $5) If you don't change it, you introduce dirty oil back into the system when you start it up since that trapped in the filter doesn't drain out.How necessary is it to change the oil filter everytime you change the oil?Changing the filter is the most important part of an oil change. If you don't change the filter, you might as well not change the oil. The filter traps metal shavings and deposits so they don't travel through your engine and damage it. If it is full, it can't do it's job.How necessary is it to change the oil filter everytime you change the oil?first of all there is no oil would last 15000miles unless its a full synthatic and it has to be mobil oil. anyway you should change the filter eveytime you change the oil.How necessary is it to change the oil filter everytime you change the oil?well you know that an oil filter only costs a few dollars and yes i would change it when i did a oil change as for now? you would be good to change it but remember to put some oil in filter before you replace it back to motor to keep from having aditional wear on parts that need oil as soon as engine cranks. check level after changeHow necessary is it to change the oil filter everytime you change the oil?Changing Oil is the MOST inportant thing you can do for your car or truck. Most filters are not that exspensive and should be replaced the sametime the oil is. It can cause problem down the road.How necessary is it to change the oil filter everytime you change the oil?Its more important to change your filter. If you have extended life oil I would change just the filter every 5000 miles.

The filter is removing the contaminants that build up in the oil.

%26quot;Quote from Oil change interval article%26quot;

This is the most controversial aspect of using synthoils. Because most of them cost $5 per quart or more, it gets very expensive to change them as often as petro-oil, and it's not really necessary. However, car engines are subject to condensation and accumulate particulate matter, both of which contaminate the oil. If you want to extend your oil change intervals, do your homework on both air and oil filtration. Air filtration affects the particulates which enter the engine, and the oil filter is your only defense against particulates and contaminants. Major aftermarket brand names in filtration include Amsoil and K%26amp;N, and web searches will provide information for you. (This is not a brand pitch - but you have to know what to look for.) Amsoil says you can run their synthetic oil one year if you also use their oil and air filtration; they also sell kits you can use to have their lab test your oil if you want to see how far you can run it before it actually needs to be changed.

Quote fro article on synthetic oils.

%26quot;For many years, I have run each change of synthetic oil for a year, changing the filter at six-month intervals. That's my own guess at what's reasonable for me, running a used car about 10K miles a year.%26quot;How necessary is it to change the oil filter everytime you change the oil?As a former automotive instructor, we had performed expirements on engines regarding oil and filter changes. We had a number of engines that clocked in well over 200K miles where only the oil filter was religiously changed. It showed that the most critical part of the equation was the filter. With today's technology on developing extended mileage oils, oil is not the issue. Removing dirt and contaminats from the engine is the surest way to get long life. Changing the filter ALWAYS is the best approach.How necessary is it to change the oil filter everytime you change the oil?first of all a km is .61 miles so its good for about 6100 miles not 15000. second ALWAYS change your filter with every oil change. also about every third oil change its probably a good idea to have your air filter changed as well. i would say just this once wont cause you problems just check your oil every other week or every week if it uses oil and keep it full if it starts looking dirty then have it changed with the filterHow necessary is it to change the oil filter everytime you change the oil?If anything, you should change the filter more often than the oil on extended oil change intervals.How necessary is it to change the oil filter everytime you change the oil?You are going to get alot of different answers on this. Some say change it. I personally think you should change it every other time. Chevy s-10 260k. And still going strong. If there is one thing I would tell you is never listen to a mechanic. Go on your own gut feeling. Remember mechaincs are out to make money.How necessary is it to change the oil filter everytime you change the oil?The company can tell you anything to sell you the product. Where will they be when your engine calfs. Not a good idea to leave the oil that long. The oil base does not break down, however the engine will accumulate sludge %26amp; contaminates that will break down the additive within the oil. I would recommend the oil be change as prescribed by the engine manufacturer. Keeping the engine free of sludge %26amp; deposits is your #1 concern, not by claims by the lubricant company.

The oil filter should be changed ever time the engine oil is changed. It makes no sense on pumping a pint of cruddy oil into your fresh oil.How necessary is it to change the oil filter everytime you change the oil?I had an opportunity to talk with a Fram Filter rep. not long ago. One of the things I learned from him was that the paper element in the filter will become 'fatigued' and will colapse. This depends on the quality and construction of the filter too. Once the filter is clogged or has colapsed, the oil is rerouted to bypass the filter.
