Oil filter is leaking after i changed my oil?

its not the old rubber left on, because i check my old filter to see if it still was attached.has anyone every had a new oil filter with a hole in it. or maybe i could have cross threaded it when i put the new one on. is that possible.

Did you put some oil on the filter seal?? This also helps to seal. The cross threading thing could be possible and also if you did not tighten it properly. This is the most common cause of a leak. It went on and seemed tight but after a few drives it begins to leak. Mine does it as well so there are times I have to retighten the thing and no more leak.



Although this is not always the case. My GM van had some problem as every second filter would leak (literally). tightening did not cure it so replacement was the cure. Never did figure out why. Brand did not matter or who installed, me the garage, dealer, no matter every other filter leaked and I did an oil change every couple of weeks (high mileage driver).
