How hard is it to do a bypass? How is is it done? Step-by step method. I am a change oil and filter guy and not a mechanic.

The radiator shop wants $500 to replace the heater core. I would like to keep the Jeep for pulling a pop-up camper. How to Bypass 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Heater Core?Well, 500 bucks to change the heater core is not too bad, considering the entire dashboard has to be removed to get to it.

Anyhow, it's real simple to bypass the heater. You can't block the flow - it has to always be circulating. Just cut the 2 hoses entering and exiting the firewall with a utility knife and connect them together with a coupler and clamps.

Before you bypass the heater, check that the problem isn't with one of those connections at the firewall. I had leaking antifreeze coming into the passenger side and the shop told me the core was bad and wanted 700-800 to replace it. I decided to do it myself. Bought a core for 79.00. Then started taking things apart. I noticed that one of the hose clamps was loose and was squirting water into the core when the engine ran. Put a new clamp on it and no more leak!
guys for the advice

multiple tables
Beckihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06753267594347244168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6369063600341346462.post-91654720874148961902011-10-25T05:39:00.008-07:002011-10-25T05:39:39.166-07:00Do all oil change places use cheap parts?Sure they might use a name brand oil, but most oil manufactures don't make filters. I've only had my oil changed once at a quick change place. (I needed it changed and it was like 20 out and in the middle of winter) When I took off the oil filter I noticed how cheep it looked. The fluid holes were smaller then name brand filters and they even had metal burrs on the holes which could of broken off and got metal chips in my oil. They will also sell you a $20.00 air filter that's worth about $3.00. It will have less fins then most air filters and a rougher mesh to compensate for the lesser area of air flow. You can go to a auto store and get a better filter for cheaper. Are there any oil change places that use name brand parts? Is a dealership your only option?Do all oil change places use cheap parts?Your best option is to buy Mobil1, take it to the dealer of your car and let them use their OEM oil filters to service your car if they aren't available at Walmart. Get this! If you take your own oil and filter to a Chevrolet dealer they'll do it for under $15.00. You can install a cabin air or engine air filter any time you want. Purolator, Motorcraft NAPA (made by Wix) AC-Delco or Wix by name will smoke any discount store Fram filter on the market.

Do not ever think of having your oil changed at Walmart. It has a new piston and a new sleeve in the cylinder. I've run it one or two hundred miles. Okay, this is just my thinking, I thought I'd run it a while, a %26quot;break-in%26quot; period using the oil that was in it and then put in a fresh filter and load of synthetic oil. I don't know if people do this anymore. My thought was the oil would pick up any contaminants or pieces of metal, and then would be flushed out with a new oil change. Considering that I've decided to do this already, how many miles would you run it before the new change, 100, 200, 1000 miles, more? thanksAn upgrade kit was added to my Triumph, how many miles till I change the oil?I'd do 500 making sure I didn't lug the engine at all during break in. I'm just wondering if you are running synthetic now. I've heard tell that synth makes bedding of the new rings a problem. I've also heard that switching from dyno oil, if that's what you are using, to synth can deprive seals of certain swelling agents that may cause them to weep a bit. YMMV! If you drive a none stop commute to work, like 60miles round trip, the oil is at a steady flow %26amp; pressure, which is better than city mileage, with lots of stops, oil pressure jumps up and down and less circulation..In other words go to the 10 % mark if highway, but not over 3 months, and for city -50%, but you need to remember to use the recommended oil for your vehicle and do not change brands-due to different makers, use different detergents in the oil..Also a factor, if the automaker thought the engine would fail-due to changing the oil by indicator, then they you have set the indicator different..Hope this helps..2001 C-5 Vette on board computer ...OIL LIFE REMAINING.?The oil monitors engine rpm, distance, temp, etc etc to determine when to change it.... and it is pretty good... After which it is recommended that you change the oil within the next 600 miles. The computer doesn't use mileage to do its calculations. It uses engine revolutions and engine temperature. This has proven to be much more efficient than just every 3,000 miles. I usually change oil about every 5,500 miles +/-. Your cars user manual might have info on the computer. Hope this helps. Take off the oil cap set drain pan under the oil pan unscrew the bolt on the oil pan drain replace bolt then remove oil filter and replace with new one make sure you wet your finger with a little oil and rub it on the black rubber o ring on the new filter so it will seal correctly. Hand tighten and then turn 1/4 turn more with wrench refill with oil they can tell you where you get the supplies from are you can look it up in your Manuel in the index under capacities. You don't have to pay extra for a name brand. You will need an oil filter wrench, a wrench for the oil pan plug, and something to catch the oil. It's an easy job. Just remember to put the plug back in before you put the new oil in. People actually forget. Put the new filter on hand tight and turn it 1/4 turn more with the oil filter wrench. Start the engine and look underneath for leaks.

You can save an awful lot of money by doing things yourself on a car and at home. My hot water supply at home got cold all of a sudden and I fixed it today for something over eight dollars. The tools and drain pan you will be able to buy if you don't already have them for under $20.00, if you buy a creeper then they are about $30 - $50 for a decent one.Do It Yourself SUV Oil Change?well depends on the brand of oil and brand of filter

i would say its going to be about 25 bucks for 5 qts. of oil and fitler

other than that itseasy really

i tell you what get a friend that know how to do it and buy him a 12 pack of beer

let him show you step by step

this way you wont mess anything up and you will learn how to do it

its fairly easy to change oil

good luck and hope this helpsBeckihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06753267594347244168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6369063600341346462.post-12962908575521722682011-10-25T05:38:00.006-07:002011-10-25T05:38:44.227-07:00How do I increase my oil pressure?I have a 88 Mazda truck with a machanical oil pump, new engine, and I still have plenty of time until I need to change my oil and filter. My pressure starts off fine, but once I have driven for a hour or two it drops to almost 0 at idle. I have the right oil weight in the truck. How do I increase my oil pressure?it might be your oil pump going out. While your truck isn't running the oil will drain to the bottom of the pan and make it easier for your pump to draw oil in. As you drive it becomes more difficult for an oil pump to draw oil. I would get your pump checked out asap. How do I increase my oil pressure? If its possible, get a high volume oil pump. How do I increase my oil pressure?Replace the oil pressure sending unit, it reads the pressure and send the information to the cluster, if you don't hear any abnormal noise when your pressure drops then it is that pressure unit or switchHow do I increase my oil pressure?add a product like STP or motor honey. works for me.How do I increase my oil pressure? You got big problems if you don't have a grantee on that engine as either the crankshaft or the bearings are NFG.How do I increase my oil pressure?sounds like the bearings may have too much space between them and the mains. most experts wold say to tear down a engine to check that before installing it, even if it came from mazda, gm or whoever. they also say as long as you have 10 psi on oil press for every 1000 rpm you don't have to worry about damaging anythingHow do I increase my oil pressure? If you really are getting near o psi at a hot idle, you either have a bad oil pressure sensor or are going to be in trouble. The engine is getting a little worn out. How many miles? Oil pressure should be near 20 at least at idle. Low oil pressure will wear out the crank and cam bearings fairly quickly. Hopefully all it is is a bad sensor or gauge. I would hook up a mechanical oil pressure gauge and verify the correct pressure readings to find out if the problem is external or inside the engine. To adjust, repair, or replace the oil pump, you need to drop the oil pan, anyway, so while you are in there you might want to replace the crankshaft bearings. If the engine has tons of miles on it, I'd just rebuild it or replace it with a rebuilt or new one.How do I increase my oil pressure?if you are sure that the gauge is working properly then you might have a weak oil pump. your best bet is to replace your pump. How do I increase my oil pressure?put in some 90 wt. gear oilBeckihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06753267594347244168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6369063600341346462.post-68848374413843703352011-10-25T05:38:00.005-07:002011-10-25T05:38:40.876-07:00How much does it cost to change engine oil and what other filters do i need to change? of coz how much?I own a nissan sunny 1.6. Most places will charge $40 for an oil change and new filter. Also check your air fliter... It really causes sluggishness in the intake and will improve performance. Air fliters should be changed every 5000kms I think it is. I don't think it's that hard. I craw under my pickup every 3k and put in fresh oil. It only takes me 10 minutes and only costs $15 for oil and the filter. Are people this lazy? Why do people think it's such a hassle to change their oil?As most people take a bath or shower from time to time to clean their body an engine requires a bath if you will at about 3k. What could be wrong?I also have a slight transmission leak, but beyond that and the oil thing everything is fine. How much, ballpark figure, would both of these problems cost to fix? When changing my oil, there was apparenlty no oil in the filter and a slight knocking. What could be wrong?Since oil is pumped into filter-you need to ask did the full amount drain out of pan when changing? Did U somehow allow the oil to leak out of the filter as u removed it?

I don't believe there is such a thing as %26quot;a slight knocking%26quot; in an engine as it is always a sign of excessive clearance. That said engines have gone thousands of miles with knocking rods and/or piston slap. These are both internal mechanical problems and usual repair is an engine rebuild.

The trans leak could be a pan gasket or one of several seals, depending on which seal could involve removal of transmission.

The cost depends on the car, parts and labor rates. U really need to give more details for even approximate answer.

Is it really a knocking or something less serious like a miss?

Where is the trans fluid leaking from? front or rear seal, pan? (place sheets of newspaper under car and start)When changing my oil, there was apparenlty no oil in the filter and a slight knocking. What could be wrong?Oil could just be low volume so filling it to proper amount may fix that. The transmission may just be bad gasket which could be changed at next fluid change or loose bolt so that could be minimal also. When changing my oil, there was apparenlty no oil in the filter and a slight knocking. What could be wrong?may be there's low amount of oil or low quality oil or may be there is oil leakage.

see to itWhen changing my oil, there was apparenlty no oil in the filter and a slight knocking. What could be wrong?Maybe the oil in the filter drained back into the engine. This doesn't sound unsual. What kind of knocking are you talking about? Valves? An hourly rate may apply to fixing the transmission. Last time I had something done it was $80 an hour. Depends on the car also. When changing my oil, there was apparenlty no oil in the filter and a slight knocking. What could be wrong? This SLIGHT knocking did not last for more then a few seconds right. If so, there is NO issue here. Oil filters, unlike fuel filters in diesel engines, do NOT need to be primed before starting the engine. All the Nervous Nellies out there will tell you otherwise but it is not true. If the engine is NOT now knocking then it is okay.

When you say transmission leak, we need to know type of car, front or rear wheel drive, and from WHERE the leak is coming from, otherwise an estimate would be all over the place.Beckihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06753267594347244168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6369063600341346462.post-63010395961885262942011-10-25T05:38:00.001-07:002011-10-25T05:38:05.258-07:00Oil Filter Vs. Synthetic Oil Longevity ?With the ever longer lasting synthetic oils on the market, how long will the Oil Filter last? and is it recommended to change it before the recommended Oil change or at the same time as what the Synthetic oil recommends its oil to be changed?

Even though Synthetic Oil will not %26quot;brakedown%26quot;as fast as Non Synthetic oil, that doesn't mean that it doesn't get just as dirty as any other oil in an engine.

I realize that a lot of it will have to do with the environment %26amp; driving conditions, but Im just curious how long the average oil filter will last during %26quot;normal%26quot; driving conditions with a synthetic oil, or is there a recommended Oil Filter to use with a Synthetic oil?Oil Filter Vs. Synthetic Oil Longevity ?AMSOIL produces the Absolute Efficiency (Ea) line of premium filters designed specifically for that purpose. Ea Oil Filters are made with full synthetic nanofiber technology, making them the highest efficiency filters that are available for the auto/light truck market. They are guaranteed for 25,000 miles or one year when used in conjunction with AMSOIL motor oil in normal service.

For more info, please visit our website:

http://gforcesynthetics.com/AMSOIL%20SynOil Filter Vs. Synthetic Oil Longevity ?Just like the oil, regardless of the miles covered the car needs servicing including an oil and filter change every 12 months as a minimum.Oil Filter Vs. Synthetic Oil Longevity ?Good question, at first GM recommended filter be changed every other oil change, but that leaves a quart of old oil in the filter, and people experienced leaks in the rubber seat on the filter if it was removed, emptied then replaced, so they reversed themselves and said just replace the filter at every oil change.Oil Filter Vs. Synthetic Oil Longevity ?Oil filters need changing every 3,000 miles. If using synthetic oil you don't need to change the oil and filter every 3 months as with regular motor oil. This is the reason people that don't put many miles on a vehicle should use synthetic oil. They may get by with once a year oil changes that way. Normal drivers still need to replace oil filters every 3,000 miles no matter the type of oil used. I always have to explain to customers with motor damage that using synthetic oil does not guarantee longer motor life and you ruined the motor because of a plugged up oil filter.Oil Filter Vs. Synthetic Oil Longevity ?Mobil One makes an EXCELLENT oi lfilter that should work for the extended oil drain interval. It is best to examine the oil condition periodically. If the synthetic oil becomes very dark or thick, then you should change the filter earlier, and add a quart. Synthetic oil will last longer if the sludge left from the old oil is chemically removed first.Beckihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06753267594347244168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6369063600341346462.post-77278374432117074802011-10-25T05:38:00.000-07:002011-10-25T05:38:00.248-07:00I wonder how frequently fast food restaurants change the cooking oil in their fryers?I believe they are using some kind of an oil filter at the end of the day, but what chemical is it thay they drop in the oil to keep it from darkening which, further extends the life of the oil?I wonder how frequently fast food restaurants change the cooking oil in their fryers?i worked in a chicken rest..our two fryers were changed on a daily basis...totally drained and the oil thrown away and the fryers scrubbed top to bottom..normally this happened at night..a few times we would have to drain the oil during the day and it didnt get scrubbed out...we didnt use anything to keep the oil from darkeningI wonder how frequently fast food restaurants change the cooking oil in their fryers?Probably every other night if they are busy.I wonder how frequently fast food restaurants change the cooking oil in their fryers?Every 2 days tops...depending on the restaurant.I wonder how frequently fast food restaurants change the cooking oil in their fryers?me too.It sure taste like some do more than others!I wonder how frequently fast food restaurants change the cooking oil in their fryers?i have worked at a few fast food places and one place cleaned it out...filtered and cleaned out the fryer and vat...everyday and replaced the oil once to twice a week...another place replaced the oil everyday.I wonder how frequently fast food restaurants change the cooking oil in their fryers?When I worked for McDonald's many years ago, we had to filter the fryers every night. Personally, I use K%26amp;N brand oil filters (some models available in chrome), the best part is they have a 17mm nut built right onto the end for easy install/removal. Any bike shop will be able to get you one.Chrome oil filter?Right next to the Armor-All.Chrome oil filter?So you don't waste your money continuously buying high priced chrome oil filters - buy a %26quot;chrome oil filter cover%26quot;

http://www.shopbikesbuiltbetter.com/shop

Search for - %26quot;oil filter cover%26quot;

Contact them to cross reference which covers will fit your bike.Chrome oil filter?Yeah....right.

You don't need to change your filter with oil changes. It is just there for show. Harley uses 600 year old technology and they haven't figured out how to filter the oil. In fact, they rely on extreme engine vibration to distribute the oil. You should have spent half the money for a plastic 750cc jap bike and claim it is the fastest thing on the road.Chrome oil filter?yer cluelessChrome oil filter? You can get it from HD, either in store or online, for $9.25.Chrome oil filter?3000 miles with conventional oil. Well not having any problems with the transmission but I know I should have it changed soon since it's dirty. But my husband can't do it till next weekend he is not a mechanic but does do the oil changes and smalll things like so, he says changing the transmission fluid is simple, so my question is will it be okay to wait till next weekend and how hard is it to change the fluid and do we need to change a filter?? I know we have to only use the honda transmission fluid. Thanks guys!!!!Transmission oil change???its not a problem that the fluid is slightly discolored. That happens over time as the dyes in the oil darken from the heat generated by the transmission. As long as the fluid doesn't smell burnt.you'll be okay.

there is no filter inside that transmission. there is a drain bolt similar to your engine oil drain plug that you unscrew to drain the oil. You will get about 3 1/2 quarts out. The only way to get it all out is to flush the trans but its not worth it.

you are right in that you need to use the Hondamatic transmission fluid only. you can only get that at a Honda dealer.

The factory recommendation on the fluid change is 100k so its not a problem unless as I mentioned the fluid smells burnt. Otherwise, no worries.

hope that helpsTransmission oil change???You should have NO WORRIES, it is not near as important as the oil changes.

To get the max life out of your car though, go with the severe service intervals for all your maintenance. This usually means trans fluid drain and top-off ever 30k.

Very easy to change - pull drain plug on side of transmission case - usually a 3/8%26quot; socket drive size. Leave it to drain. Replace plug and top off with the correct amount of ATF. My accord takes exactly 2.5 quarts.

Note: For regular ATF, yes use Honda brand. But, I recommend Amsoil synthetic to all my customers. I have 3 Hondas that all have Amsoil - 95 Odyssey 230k miles, 94 Accord wagon 227k miles and 94 Accord sedan 281k miles. Synthetic stays much cooler and thus does not breakdown and turn brown like your current ATF. Temperature is the reason for failure in 90% of transmission issues.

To switch over, just drain and top the ATF at each oil change. You should have it mostly switched over after about 4 changes. After this, you can easily go 60k on the ATF drains. The synthetic oil and the extended life oil filters are rated at 25k miles though I usually only double the Honda interval of 7500 with 15k changes. This makes it just as cheap to use the expensive synthetic. ($7/qt and $9 filters) compared to 3k oil changes with regular oil ($2/qt*5 and $3/filter*5).Transmission oil change???Personally my experience had been normally simply draining %26amp; refilling the ATF fluid every 25,000 to 30,000 miles works best! In fact we have always owned 5 brand new TOYOTAS (and one, a 1993 Toyota Camry LE we gave away with 211,000 miles when my wife got 2005 Highlander 6 cylinder AWD all have made it to at least 150,000 miles with no ATF or transmission problems simply by draining %26amp; refilling the ATF fluid, actually I do it more frequently after the vehicle reached 100K mile plateau like every 2nd or 3rd oil change. But again, most experts recommend every 25,000 or 30,000 miles and then I was surprised that most service stations charge like $30 when it is such an easy DIY task of simply opening the drain plug, measure how much came out and then refill like 2 to 3 quarts of ATF according to the manufacturer specifications via skinny ATF tube.

Older vehicles used to use DEXRON III ATF but newer ones use more sophisticated ATF that it is extremely critical not to refill with wrong ATF, otherwise troubles begin and TRANSMISSIONS are expensive to overhaul %26amp; fix and often times never the same that people give up and trade-in as lessons learned experience.

Hope the Above Info Helps %26amp; Best of LuckBeckihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06753267594347244168noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6369063600341346462.post-10471524745481632212011-10-25T05:37:00.005-07:002011-10-25T05:37:25.415-07:00Help stuck oil filter 2000 grand am?ok dont laugh yet i was doing an oil change no biggie could not locate oilo filter found it on side of passenger tire tried to remove it usually no problem this one was stuck anyways after a little bit of frustration the oil filter is now only part of one only the flat top remains hookedon to the bolt how do i remove this all ideas welcome thank youHelp stuck oil filter 2000 grand am?the center bolt will come out if you can get to it! the bolt can be replaced if it is damaged! use vice gripsHelp stuck oil filter 2000 grand am?what type of oil filter wrench your using medal band type or a stap type chain type stap type works better and you sure you turning it the right way its lefty loosey righty tighty and once you get it off when you go to put it back put some oil on the seal and done tighten it no more than hand tightBeckihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06753267594347244168noreply@blogger.com0
