I want to change the oil filter on my MK5 FSI Golf as part of a normal service, but the VW handbook is rubbish and I can't seem to work out how to get the engine plate n top of the engine off either. Is it best to go find a Haynes manual or is it really easy?

How to change a oil filter in a 2001 saturn l300?
i believe that is a top side filter...you need a ratchet and a socket to fit that plastic black canister located on the right side of the engine, just under the manifold. it is a black plastic top screwed into a metal housing.accept divorce papers price of oil to fall

I've never changed the oil on anything before so if there's something you're not thinking of because it would be too obvious, please still mention it.
I drained the oil (I was showed how by a mechanic at HD briefly), changed the oil filter, and added oil. However, I added a bit too much oil and decided to deal with this problem the next morning.
When I woke up, a forgot to drain the extra oil so I did that, however, I first attempted to start the bike (because I forgot) and it wouldn't start. I couldn't drain all the extra oil either, I'm guessing since the oil isn't warm, it's not coming out that quickly.
Anyway, my bike won't start anymore. I ONLY touched things to do with the oil. When I turn the bike to ON, the lights come on, but when I try to start it, the lights dim a bit and it whines and won't start. Usually the oil light comes on when it's not started, but now after attempting to start it, it permanently turns off until I turn the bike off and on again.

I've been serving my old car myself with the 'can' type oil filters with no problem, but ive noticed that on my new car, a 2003 1.7 CDTI Civic, that the replacement oil filter is just the paper element. Dont be scared to get your hands dirty and i must say that after you said u wanted to learn a thing or two i nearly fell in love. I have 4 dumbazz sisters who can barely put gas in a car. Ask me anything you want and if i dont know the answer then i will find you someone who can.

Oil change from hell?
I have a 2000 Toyota 4runner. The oil filter is in a rediculous spot. Toyota obviously did this on purpose so you have to go to the dealership to change the oil. Ive been back and forth from autozone 7 times today to try every oil filter wrench there is. Nothing will work because there is no room to turn any kind of tool, and the ratchet one doesn't work either because it props the extension up on an angle and a ratchet wont work either. I cant even puncture with a screw driver because there is no play to turn it. This is pure craziness and Ive never seen anything like this after changing oil for 20 years. I'm just gonna waste my new synthetic oil and put it in without changing the filter and take it to the mechanic in a few weeks. 2005 Cavalier... How to change the oil filter?
I bought a 2005 cavalier a couple months ago. I had a '98 before that and an '86 stepside as well. I've always done all of my own work on my vehicles and finally had to take this car in to get the oil changed by someone else. I can't find a Chilton's or Hayes repair manual for it %26amp; from what I've read online and checking out the filters in the stores it has one of those 'green/economic' filters. I was looking for some assistance on locating and taking off/replacing this new 'friendly' filter... Also, wondering if it is in such a back-breaking location at the '98s?

Then once everything it plugged back up, Fill the car with oil from the spicket under the hood. (should use all 5 quarts). After it is full and you put the dipstick/cap back on, start your car and then wait for the oil light to turn off. it will only be on for a few seconds. then check for leaks. After it is full and you put the dipstick/cap back on, start your car and then wait for the oil light to turn off. it will only be on for a few seconds. then check for leaks. I bought a used car. After an oil change I found it has less than 3 quarts of oil, what should I Do?
I bought the car from a dealership 3 months ago. When I asked about the service I was told that it had been completely serviced before they sold it to me. I took it to get an oil change today where I learned that it had about 3 quarts of oil (4.5 filled it), an oil leak and that the oil filter had not been changed in almost a year. I also have pretty good evidence that the last oil change was probably in september of 2006. So, not only was I lied to (Typical car sales people), but there's no telling how long this has been the case, or what damage has been done while I drove thinking everything was fine. My first reaction is to be mad since I am paying my hard earned money for this thing. I want to return the car since I don't know what shape it is really in. But I highly doubt that they would just let me out of the loan without a fight (Lawyer). So, how should I approach this when I go in to confront them about it? And what should I ask for? Car needs ECU after tune up/oil change/fuel filter change?
I keep reading that ECUs are not interchangable but how do I found out which one I need (95 mitsu eclipse 2.0 DOHC) I am having MORE work done to my car, but I am still deciding if it is worth doing for I am already in for $443 for work done w/towing and would rather not shell out another $200 (estimated)

I am trying to become informed on the repairs and want more knowledge before I tell the mechanic to proceed with the repairs. Changing Oil Filter on 2003 4Runner...?
I can change my oil without any problem, but I absolutely cannot figure out how to get to my oil filter on my vehicle. It's a 2003 4runner, Sports edition V8. Do I have to take the skid plate off to be able to reach the oil filter? Please tell me there's an easier way to get to it than disassembling my truck. A) Defective filter
B) Wrong filter installed on the car
C) Improper installation
Unless you provided your own oil filter, the shop is going to be liable not only for the repair of your vehicle, but also for your costs for replacement transportation while the car is being repaired. They should also pay for the towing bill, and the bill at the shop where the car was towed!!Is it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? I have a 1996 VW Jetta GL, I just started using Mobil1 full synthetic. I am a city driver almost exclusively and put up about 750 miles a month. I was thinking maybe changing the filter every 3000 and the oil every 5? The manual says 7500 but I really want to keep this car in good shape. So 3 days after I just got my oil change I was driving down the road when my car began to stall out and die on me. I was able to get it off the road and upon opening the hood I saw a large puddle of oil down by the oil filter and I'm out of oil leading me to believe that when I got my oil changed the filter was put on wrong. If its a later V6(1GR-FE) then its the easiest as the filter sits right on top near the filler. There is a plug on the bottom of the filter housing that you remove and put a bottle under to catch the oil that comes from the filter. After that the drain plug is just like the other ones. The worst engines were Nissans: their filters were a NIGHTMARE to replace. I did do an oil change on a Dodge RAM SRT10 with the 500hp Viper engine: it was very smooth. I quit around June of '05, and I don't remember having done any oil changes on the 5.7 Hemi engines. Dodges are easier.

A few months ago, I noticed my oil was low, so I bought 5 qts of cheap oil and added it to my engine instead of taking it for an oil change. Take notes of what they tell you so you can see if they are contradicting any of their responses to you. I do know over filling the oil can lead to many problems with several Items. What kind of car and engine do you have and did the oil leak start after the water pump was changed .. but by all means you need to determine where is the leak coming from that is the starting point ,then we can determine at what stage or part of the repair that may have caused this leak
Remember since you are losing oil check the oil level first thing in the morning before you start the car, you may have to add a little oil to get to your next destination and this is serious as if the oil is dripping on the exaust area it could cause you car to catch on fire.

Hello. I have a 1991 Honda Civic DX 2 door hatchback with a 1.5 liter engine, could anyone give me detailed instructions on how to change the oil filter, It seems to be in quite a hard spot. You need the proper tools (don't think you can undo everything with pliers), a suitable container to drain the old oil into, and a sheet to catch the mess around the edges. Rubber gloves are a good idea. I do it after a run so the engine oil is warm and drains easily. Take off the filler cap to let air in easily, and unscrew the sump plug VERY slowly, so that you make sure you have got the collecting container in the right place. It's going to be hot oil coming out, so don't jump and drop the sump plug into the old oil. Be careful not to lose the washer on the plug. When the oil has finished draining, remember to put the sump plug back. The final thing to beware of is knocking the container of old oil before you close it. Getting the old oil filter off is easy with the proper wrench. Put a smear of oil on the rubber of the new filter before you screw it back in.
