Location of the oil filter on a MK5 FSI Golf?

I want to change the oil filter on my MK5 FSI Golf as part of a normal service, but the VW handbook is rubbish and I can't seem to work out how to get the engine plate n top of the engine off either. Is it best to go find a Haynes manual or is it really easy?

Searching on the internet has brought up nothing of use.Location of the oil filter on a MK5 FSI Golf?do you mean the filter that is on top and inside of the rocker box cover...Location of the oil filter on a MK5 FSI Golf? From what I can remember the oil filter is in the middle of the engine at the back between the fire wall and the engine block. You will need to either remove the engine cover or remove the filter from under the car.

Ja.

How to change a oil filter in a 2001 saturn l300?

i believe that is a top side filter...you need a ratchet and a socket to fit that plastic black canister located on the right side of the engine, just under the manifold. it is a black plastic top screwed into a metal housing.

Problem with an oil change on a Buell Blast 2001...?

I've never changed the oil on anything before so if there's something you're not thinking of because it would be too obvious, please still mention it.

I drained the oil (I was showed how by a mechanic at HD briefly), changed the oil filter, and added oil. However, I added a bit too much oil and decided to deal with this problem the next morning.

When I woke up, a forgot to drain the extra oil so I did that, however, I first attempted to start the bike (because I forgot) and it wouldn't start. I couldn't drain all the extra oil either, I'm guessing since the oil isn't warm, it's not coming out that quickly.

Anyway, my bike won't start anymore. I ONLY touched things to do with the oil. When I turn the bike to ON, the lights come on, but when I try to start it, the lights dim a bit and it whines and won't start. Usually the oil light comes on when it's not started, but now after attempting to start it, it permanently turns off until I turn the bike off and on again.

Any thoughts?Problem with an oil change on a Buell Blast 2001...?open both drain plug and fill plug to let air in then put right amount in . pull spark plugs out and clean they could be oil soaked. make sure you turn the gas on. you could put a teaspoon of gas in each cylinder. before putting spark plugs back in good luck

Where is the oil filter located in a 98 Honda Accord?

Helping my friend change his oil filter and was told by some that the location of the oil filter in Hondas is terrible.

Any idea where it's located and how easy/ clean it would be to do with normal %26quot;so-it-yourself%26quot; ramps?Where is the oil filter located in a 98 Honda Accord? It depends if it has the 4 cyl or the V6 engine. The V6 is over on the passenger side of the block near the front suspension components if I remember correctly and I know for a fact the 4 cyl is on the back side of the block between the block and the firewall. You can reach it from under the vehicle don't try to reach either from topside through the hood.

Oh, and the ramps should be good enough. But both locations sometimes cause oil to get a little messy when it comes out and drains down other components.Where is the oil filter located in a 98 Honda Accord?it is on the motor

  • Where is the best place in Seattle to learn to change my Car's oil?

I'm still in high school, and want to learn how to do some basic car mechanics. i.e. changing oil, changing filters, ext...

very basic, I don't have enough time to learn how to completely build an engine

I know that some community colleges offer seminars, but I have been researching it for a while and I don't really know where to look.

Can you tell me of specific classes I can take, or resources to help me find a class?

I have also heard of all women classes, that sounds interesting to me. I am a bit of a girly girl, and it might be embarrassing for me to learn how to work on a car with a bunch of boys, but then again, it could be fun!

I live in the Burien area of Seattle, so if nothing else, can you at least tell be of some community colleges that offer auto-mechanic courses in my area?

    Thanks for listening!

:)Where is the best place in Seattle to learn to change my Car's oil?Im sory to sound like an *** but college is for folks who dont wanna get there hands dirty and thats why they get a 4 ft rear end at a desk.. THE BEST place to learn is in your driveway. Stop by the autoparts store and buy your filter, oil and a chiltons manual on your car. It will tell you every little detail, step by step and how to double check your work to know you have done it right.. Dont be scared to get your hands dirty and i must say that after you said u wanted to learn a thing or two i nearly fell in love. I have 4 dumbazz sisters who can barely put gas in a car. Ask me anything you want and if i dont know the answer then i will find you someone who can.

How to change the oil on a 05 chevy cobalt?

I know how to change the oil on my car, but I do not know how to do it to change the oil filter. It seems easy but because it is just a filter I have never changed one like that before. Oil change from hell?

I have a 2000 Toyota 4runner. The oil filter is in a rediculous spot. Toyota obviously did this on purpose so you have to go to the dealership to change the oil. Ive been back and forth from autozone 7 times today to try every oil filter wrench there is. Nothing will work because there is no room to turn any kind of tool, and the ratchet one doesn't work either because it props the extension up on an angle and a ratchet wont work either. I cant even puncture with a screw driver because there is no play to turn it. This is pure craziness and Ive never seen anything like this after changing oil for 20 years. I'm just gonna waste my new synthetic oil and put it in without changing the filter and take it to the mechanic in a few weeks. I dont even see how a mechanic can do it unless you remove the alternator or disassemble skid plate and other parts.Oil change from hell?toyota has a better idea!Oil change from hell?go to Sears buy you a strap wrench this will solve your problem .

  • 2005 Cavalier... How to change the oil filter?

I bought a 2005 cavalier a couple months ago. I had a '98 before that and an '86 stepside as well. I've always done all of my own work on my vehicles and finally had to take this car in to get the oil changed by someone else. I can't find a Chilton's or Hayes repair manual for it %26amp; from what I've read online and checking out the filters in the stores it has one of those 'green/economic' filters. I was looking for some assistance on locating and taking off/replacing this new 'friendly' filter... Also, wondering if it is in such a back-breaking location at the '98s?

How much oil does a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup need in an oil change?

I just got a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup truck. Runs great but of course I want to give it an oil change. Already changed all the filters (except oil filter).

I don't know how much oil it will need for an oil change. If someone can tell me and give solid reference to a reputable place, I would greatly appreciate it! I also need to know WHAT KIND of oil to use also.

Some notes: If I'm not mistaken, its a 305 V8 or something along those lines. I'm not sure how to find out this info, I was told 305 by the previous owner. How much oil does a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup need in an oil change?Between 4 and 5 quarts of 10W40 will get the job done. How much oil does a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup need in an oil change?i WOULD LOOK AT THE MANUAL IT HAS IT LISTED IF LOSTED LOOK IT UP ON THE INTERANATHow much oil does a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup need in an oil change?Depends on the weather conditions - hot or cold weather-- Mileage on engine - normally 5 Qts. with a filter change..type of driving - highway - round town..How much oil does a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup need in an oil change? The oil capacity of most automobile and light truck engines from the 60's was five (5) quarts including the filter. If you are a little unsure, then I suggest that you remove and replace the filter, put in four (4) quarts of oil, run the engine for a few minutes to circulate the oil and then check the oil level on the dipstick. You will probably notice that you are low by about a quart. Add enough oil to bring the level up to the %26quot;full%26quot; mark on the dipstick.

By the way, the 302 engine was not available in 1964. If the truck had a V8, then it was probably a 260 or a 352. These engines are relatively easy to identify and tell apart; but in any event, they both probably only use five quarts with a filter change. How much oil does a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup need in an oil change? If it's a 302 Ford engine, it's been transplanted into the truck since it wasn't introduced until '67. The 305 is a SB Chevy engine.

If it's an original FE block, it's most likely a 352. Take a look at the intake manifold and see if it bolts to the heads under the valve covers - if so, it's an FE engine. I think the best thing for you to do is to find a mechanic who is familiar with the early Ford engines and ask him to take a look. A truck that

old may have had several owners and an equal number of modifications.

It sounds like a fun ride - good luck. How much oil does a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup need in an oil change?Five quarts. If it is the original engine it is a 292, an easy way to tell is look at the exhaust manifolds. If they are connected together with a pipe that runs across the front of the engine, it is a 292 (or possibly a 312).How much oil does a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup need in an oil change?a 305 is a chevy engine, its probably a 302, they put alot of 302s in vehicles back then and still do today. ok, about your oil. it probably takes at least 5 or 6 qts. with a new filter. about the oil, they are many types of good oil on the market, but quaker state is not 1 of them. myself, i have always used pennzoil 10w30 and never had a problem once with it, but also vavoline is good, havoline isnt a bad oil either. How much oil does a 1964 Ford F100 Pickup need in an oil change?got to autozone.com But It should take 6 quarts of oil with filter change. http://www.autozone.com/Action,specsSele

How do you get access to the oil filter on a 2002 Ford Focus?

I see no point of access for removal of the oil filter from overhead..Will the car have to be on a hoist to change the oil filter?..I've never seen such an inaccessible filter in my life !!How do you get access to the oil filter on a 2002 Ford Focus? You will need the following tools

    A jack (Preferably a 2 - 4 ton)

2 Jack stands (at least 1 ton each)

An oil filter loosen-er (You will need to find one that fits your oil filter)

5 quarts of the oil you need (most likely 5W-30 for a 4-Cylinder)

and an Oil Filter (Part no. HP-1002) %26lt;== From KNFilters.com

You will need to find a solid point under the car to jack on, Preferably in the center of the from wheels. PLace the jack stands under the car somewhere right behind the wheels on the frame. Before you late the jack completely down, rest the car on the jack stands and bump the car a few time gently to make sure it is stable. Then remove the jack stand and go under the car and with an oil pan, drain the oil out via the oil plug on the oil pan, Then plug it back. Remove the filter with the tool. Then you put a little bit of oil in the new filter, About half way, Then you put it on and tighten it (NOTE: only FINGER TIGHTEN the oil filter, tighten it as much as you possibly can using your hand only. Then once everything it plugged back up, Fill the car with oil from the spicket under the hood. (should use all 5 quarts). After it is full and you put the dipstick/cap back on, start your car and then wait for the oil light to turn off. it will only be on for a few seconds. then check for leaks. Put you car back on the ground and enjoy. =)How do you get access to the oil filter on a 2002 Ford Focus?it comes out from underneath the car. jack it up.

I bought a used car. After an oil change I found it has less than 3 quarts of oil, what should I Do?

I bought the car from a dealership 3 months ago. When I asked about the service I was told that it had been completely serviced before they sold it to me. I took it to get an oil change today where I learned that it had about 3 quarts of oil (4.5 filled it), an oil leak and that the oil filter had not been changed in almost a year. I also have pretty good evidence that the last oil change was probably in september of 2006. So, not only was I lied to (Typical car sales people), but there's no telling how long this has been the case, or what damage has been done while I drove thinking everything was fine. My first reaction is to be mad since I am paying my hard earned money for this thing. I want to return the car since I don't know what shape it is really in. But I highly doubt that they would just let me out of the loan without a fight (Lawyer). So, how should I approach this when I go in to confront them about it? And what should I ask for? ThanksI bought a used car. After an oil change I found it has less than 3 quarts of oil, what should I Do?You bought the car %26quot;as-is%26quot;..... should've asked for service records or had it inspected by a mechanic first. You might get the dealership to do more for you when you have the advantage, hope this helpsI bought a used car. After an oil change I found it has less than 3 quarts of oil, what should I Do?Ask for the person in charge.Tell them what you found. Then ask for a engine warrenty in case of early problems. If they say no to the warrenty talk to a good lawyer.I bought a used car. After an oil change I found it has less than 3 quarts of oil, what should I Do?A used car is sold %26quot;as is%26quot;. You state the car has an oil leak, could be where that quart and one half went. Also, if you got the car three months ago, and this is the first time you have opened the hood and checked anything, you are looking for trouble. Regular maintenance will save you thousands. You could have replaced the lost oil had you checked the fluids two months ago. You have no grounds to approach the dealership, and will be a waste of your time and effort. Use it as a learning experience, and move on, it's not worth it. Good luck.

  • Car needs ECU after tune up/oil change/fuel filter change?

I keep reading that ECUs are not interchangable but how do I found out which one I need (95 mitsu eclipse 2.0 DOHC) I am having MORE work done to my car, but I am still deciding if it is worth doing for I am already in for $443 for work done w/towing and would rather not shell out another $200 (estimated)

From the little info I have seen there are three choices for my engine but I havent a clue if all three will plug in but have a 33% chance of having it be the correct one. I am trying to become informed on the repairs and want more knowledge before I tell the mechanic to proceed with the repairs. I would hate to find out he replaced the ECU with one that will do the job for a small amount of time.

I am hoping for reassurance that ONLY the correct ECU will fit and start my car. Thanks in advance to any and all the take the time to replyCar needs ECU after tune up/oil change/fuel filter change? It's true ECUs are not interchangeable, but that should not mean you'll have trouble finding it, because there should be only one choice for your car, model and engine. It might depend on which Eclipse you have, i.e. GS, GST, GSX, or RS. I suggest going to www.rockauto.com. Then just select your car, etc..., and under the electrical category, go to the engine control module (computer). They list the choices there, as well as the OEM model #. Look at the number on yours, and the one that matches is the correct one.

On another note... Some details of your story seem to be missing, but it sounds like a typical sheisty mechanic to me... You bring it in, have some work done, and with your car at the mercy of being towed, they tell you you need this and that expensive crap too or your car's gonna blow, etc...

Some important information is missing here though... Like why was the car being brought in for a tune-up? Tune up stuff like plugs, wires, filters, etc... are good to do when needed, but they are not the cause of stranding you, just poor performance/efficiency. I'm assuming that somehow it's been explained to you that the ECU is what stranded you...and yeah that could be, but I'd wonder how that was determined...and if the problem was the ECU, then why was the tune up stuff done?

Another thing...you are trying to figure out which ECU is usable, but you're afraid of the mechanic putting in one which won't last? I don't know if you plan on doing just that part yourself....but either way, if the mechanic doesn't know which ECU to get, then he/she's sure out to lunch, and someone who would never see my car again. If you're thinking of perusing the salvage yards, then again, there should be a model # on the ECU itself, and if that's the same, it's the same unit. But again, you said your main purpose is reassurance that only the correct ECU will fit and start your car... That's true, but it shouldn't be relevant. There is no benefit to trying to find a different-than-original ECU, unless you found a cheap one on ebay or something.Car needs ECU after tune up/oil change/fuel filter change?yes only the correct engine control unit will work,, my question is my does it need one after a tuneup. is there a problem with the one you have, if there is then any problems you are having may be the ecu not the spark plugs and oil filter.i would sugjest having someone preform this for you since replacing an ecu requires care to protect against static electricity. that will dammage a new ecu

Is it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? How did it fall off? Why? who's fault?

I went for an oil change about 10 days ago. My oil light came on and my car stalled. When I had it towed to the nearest auto station, they told me my car did not have a filiter. What went wrong? My engine was damaged and now it is sitting in the shop where I had the oil change done. They told me that their insurance company has to come and investigate. Are they at fault? How does a filter just %26quot;fall off%26quot;? HOw can I get this resolved? Are they responsible for repairng/getting me a new engineIs it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? How did it fall off? Why? who's fault? There are only three reasons that an oil filter would fall off.

    A) Defective filter

    B) Wrong filter installed on the car

    C) Improper installation

Unless you provided your own oil filter, the shop is going to be liable not only for the repair of your vehicle, but also for your costs for replacement transportation while the car is being repaired. They should also pay for the towing bill, and the bill at the shop where the car was towed!!Is it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? How did it fall off? Why? who's fault?they installed the wrong filter .i just ran into a pathfinder with the same problem the used a filter for a diffent make engine .there is a slight possibility of a defective filter but unlikely.or just a shoddy job, hope this helpsIs it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? How did it fall off? Why? who's fault? If all is true, document everything and never go to a %26quot;quick lube%26quot; service shop again! Apparently the mechanic that worked on your car is on drugs and needs treatment. Is it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? How did it fall off? Why? who's fault? It is possible, but not for long. Obviously all the oil drains or is pumped out through where the oil filter attaches. I'd say the place that changed the oil filter is at fault, but proving that is an entirely different matter (especially ten days later). Is it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? How did it fall off? Why? who's fault?ever who installed the filter may not have tightened it back up right ,that puts them responsible for the damage to it,if it needs another engine in it they will be responsible for seeing that it is fixed back right, good luck with it.Is it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? How did it fall off? Why? who's fault?it's 100% thier fault they did thatIs it possible to drive a car w/o an oil filter? How did it fall off? Why? who's fault?well sounds pretty cut and dry that they messed up. Unfortunately don't expect to get out of this for nothing. All the insurance or the oil change shop is entitled to do is get a motor equivalent to what you had. So if you had 100 miles on it they will get an engine from a junk yard with 100k miles on it. If you want a brand new engine forget about it. You, unfortunately, may even have some out pocket expense. It is just the way it works with insurance companies. Just remember that mistakes happen and it is only a car. If they cooperate and give you a loaner until the car is fixed and do fix the car then that is all you can ask for really. It is unfortunate or you and the oil change shop. It will definitely hurt their reputation and also may hurt your wallet too.

About how much for an oil change for VW at dealer?

Can anyone tell me about how much an oil change would run me for a 2005 VW Passat DOHC 4 cylinder? I live in NW Pennsylvania. Wal Mart was going to do it with a fuel injection cleaning for $45, but they do not carry theVW oil filter.About how much for an oil change for VW at dealer? Why do people bash dealerships? As if they were evil personified?

My VW dealer treats me with respect and charges a fair price.

At $45 Walmart will not use the correct oil. This IMO is very important. Use the correct oil and genuine filter. You can run all over town buying oil here , a filter there and then take it to a shop and wait some more.

Why not go to local dealer who knows your car and its requirements best and save time?

My dealer charges $68 [synthetic oil] and half hour later, I'm out. So yes, couple of $ more, but remember; you get what you pay for......About how much for an oil change for VW at dealer?i would say 50 or so.About how much for an oil change for VW at dealer?Twenty five dollars at another place. A manuel will provide information on the oil.About how much for an oil change for VW at dealer? If you have Walmart change the oil, you'll need to buy the synthenic oil change for the vehicle using Mobil 1 European formula.. and you can buy the oil filter and drain plug washer from the dealer. In this area, Walmart charges $55 using a Fram oil filter for their oil change. Its still far less expensive than the dealership; in the Bay Area around San Francisco, dealerships charge from $60+ and more (usually MORE!) for a synthenic oil change for a VW. Hourly rates vary, so at your location it could be more or less; in most cases, less than here in the San Francisco area.

How often should I change oil when using 10W-30 Mobil1?

I have a 1996 VW Jetta GL, I just started using Mobil1 full synthetic. I am a city driver almost exclusively and put up about 750 miles a month. I was thinking maybe changing the filter every 3000 and the oil every 5? The manual says 7500 but I really want to keep this car in good shape. Thanks! How often should I change oil when using 10W-30 Mobil1?I think the answers you have gotten below have not addressed the fact that you are using a fully synthetic oil. Mobil 1 can last much longer than every 3000 miles or even every 5000 miles. I would go for at least every 6000 miles with a new filter everytime. If you don't like my suggestion, do your homework on oil at http://theoildrop.server101.com/forums/uHow often should I change oil when using 10W-30 Mobil1?Even the best oil gets dirty. you should change the oil AND filter every 3 months or 3000 miles. withchever comes first. How often should I change oil when using 10W-30 Mobil1?It depends how and where you drive: change it when it looks and feels dirty.

Also it depends on how and where you drive. Toyota recommend changing engine oil and filter every 5,000 miles. But I think that is for IDEAL driving condition. How much should an Oil Change cost for a 2006 VW New Beetle Convertible?

I used to own a 2001 New Beetle, I never payed more than $25.00 for an oil change.

I recently had my oil changed in my 2006 New Beetle, and it cost me $75.00. Was I taken advantage of or does this price sound correct to anyone else? They told me my car used a %26quot;special%26quot; oil that would be around $50 or so, then they said I had to have a special oil filter that I'm guess cost around $25.00 Turns out, my special oil is not really that special. Its synthetic castrol. What do you all think??How much should an Oil Change cost for a 2006 VW New Beetle Convertible? The harsh truth is this is an accurate number for a fully synthetic oil change.

Many shops mark up the price of the oil and filters A LOT! On top of that you are paying for labor. Yes you can get them a little cheaper elsewhere but expect to pay around $60-$80 for a full synthetic oil change.

BTW even with synthetic dont go more than 7500 miles tops before an oil change, most recommend 3k-5k miles.

You can do it yourself for about $35-$40, if you don't want to or can't and go to a shop to have your oil changed, ask them what they include in their oil change that makes it so much. Sometimes they add cleaners that increase the cost but are not neccessary and you can get a lower %26quot;package%26quot; that would just be oil and filter and labor. How much should an Oil Change cost for a 2006 VW New Beetle Convertible?I just had the oil changed on my 2007 Jetta and it cost me 68.00 dollars!! I just took my car in for an oil change the other day and it just died on me and is out of oil?

So 3 days after I just got my oil change I was driving down the road when my car began to stall out and die on me. I was able to get it off the road and upon opening the hood I saw a large puddle of oil down by the oil filter and I'm out of oil leading me to believe that when I got my oil changed the filter was put on wrong. Anybody have any idea how best to take care of this I have not yet started the car back up and I called the place where I got the oil change from but they said they would be calling me back? ThnxI just took my car in for an oil change the other day and it just died on me and is out of oil?Don't drive, get it towed to the oil change place. You engine may be dead. I am pretty sure they didn't take the old oil filter gasket off (put the filter with 2 gaskets) and leaked all the oil. I have seen a piston coming out of the block because of it. Common mistake for starter.

Good luck.I just took my car in for an oil change the other day and it just died on me and is out of oil? They may owe you another car. Running a car without oil can destroy the motor fast. Make sure you stay on top of them to take care of it.I just took my car in for an oil change the other day and it just died on me and is out of oil?Have it towed to the place that you had your oil changed at. They are responsible for any internal damage that happened to the engine. Make sure that they pay for your car to be inspected by a factory certified mechanic to test for any internal damage to the engine.I just took my car in for an oil change the other day and it just died on me and is out of oil?First, you need to contact the oil change shop. Hopefully, they will be willing to work with you. If they are not willing to work with you, you will need a lawyer.

Seeing your engine was starting to seize you could easily have some serious internal engine damage. You will need to have this looked at by a professional mechanic.

Have it towed to the mechanic or the oil change shop. Let them start the engine. If it starts and makes no unusual noises there isn't any serious damage. They can do another oil change, correctly this time, and there should be no other problems.

However if it makes strange noises you could have a seized or spun bearing, usually a main or rod bearing. This can be costly to repair. However this is the responsibility of the oil change shop.

If the car needs further repairs the oil change shop should also provide a rental car while your car is repaired.I just took my car in for an oil change the other day and it just died on me and is out of oil?Obviously the people changing the oil made a mistake in getting the cap on. I would call them again and ask if they will take care of the problem. They should come to your place to correct the problem. Good luck.I just took my car in for an oil change the other day and it just died on me and is out of oil?It sounds like a moron at the lube station forgot to put the oil drain plug back into the oil pan.Either that or when they put the oil filter on the worker didn't run a coat of engine oil on the seal of the filter. If there is ANY damage to your motor, they are obligated to fix any damages due to their negligence. If they refuse to fix it, I'd take it to court.I just took my car in for an oil change the other day and it just died on me and is out of oil?get it towed back to the place that changed your oil. they obviously did something wrong. they are responsible to fix it properly at no cost to you.I just took my car in for an oil change the other day and it just died on me and is out of oil?I disagree with the other posters. If they messed it up, they may try to cover it up and blame it on you so they don't have to fork over the money for a new engine, which it will most likely need. Plus, if they messed it up once, can you really trust them not to do it again? I would have it towed to a dealer. I don't normally use dealer repair shops, but they will be considered the authority if it has to go to court. I would tell them what happened, ask them to simply diagnose what happened, and then take the diagnosis to the place that messed it up and see if they will do the right thing. If not, hope you have a good lawyer. Good luck.I just took my car in for an oil change the other day and it just died on me and is out of oil?I go along with camuted to a point; I would have it towed to a dealer, but call the oil change shop and offer to let them send a representative (preferably the manager) to be there while the car is being inspected.

If the puddle was under the filter, I'm guessing they cross-threaded the filter or canister when they put it back on, and it didn't seal. Whatever the problem, the oil change shop is responsible. That's the reason I pay a little extra and have the dealer change my oil.I just took my car in for an oil change the other day and it just died on me and is out of oil?thats what happens when they hire d--ckhead teenagers, to do a job

perhaps the oil filter is not on tight enough , do twist accordingly.

check your oildipstick , if no oil go and get some from the nearest place refill and look under car while idling your engine.

dont wait foer those a--ho--les to call back.I just took my car in for an oil change the other day and it just died on me and is out of oil?I'm not entirely convinced that the oil change people are at fault, because if there was catastrophic incompetence involved it should have shown up before now...in other words, if they forgot to replace the drain plug, or didn't tighten the oil filter, you wouldn't have been able to drive it for three days.

I'm not saying that they are not at fault. But I think you should be prepared for a battle. They are going to be looking for another reason for the car to have failed...and they just might find it.I just took my car in for an oil change the other day and it just died on me and is out of oil?I'm a mechanic, if you have insurance talk to them first, they know how to deal with situations like this. If you don't have insurance then listen to carnuted. The people who screwed up your car will probably try to avoid accepting responsibility for their mistake.I just took my car in for an oil change the other day and it just died on me and is out of oil?at this point you need to prepare your case. first take lots of pictures of the oil around the filter and anything else that looks like it might have caused the problem including any oil under the car. was there oil on the ground where you normally park the car?

i agree that a non interested party like the dealer is a good place to have the car towed to and inspected. invite the manager of the oil change shop to be present for the inspection of your vehicle. take time to document all events. find your receipt for the service.

you need to also be prepared that it was not a oil change problem, it could have been an engine failure like a cracked block.

good luck to youI just took my car in for an oil change the other day and it just died on me and is out of oil?I hope your engine isn't blown, but from the looks of it, it possible is close to being completely damaged. Make sure the place who did your oil change calls you back, it would be their fault since they didn't install the oil filter on correctly.

I live in LaPaz Mexico...lots of dust. How often to change oil and filter for a jeep wrangler 4x4 2008?Since your living in a really dusty environment, use the severe service guidelines as outlined in the owners manual. That will likely say to change the oil every 3,000 miles. I live in Canada, and all vehicles here follow the severe service guidelines, because of the cold winters and humid summers. How often to change oil and filter for a jeep wrangler 4x4 2008?Invest in a cotton air filter like K%26amp;N. The filter fiber is oiled so it does a great job of catching fine dust, plus you can wash and re oil them when they get dirty. Other than that, if you run a full synthetic, you can keep a better watch of how clean your oil is. You can always change the oil filter only. Also look into an oil filter relocation kit, it makes them easy to change and adds a couple quarts to the capacity which is good for hot climates. How often to change oil and filter for a jeep wrangler 4x4 2008?Per good maintenance: every 3,000 miles.

Per mfg. reccomendation: 5,000 to 7,000 miles.

  • Does anyone out there know how to change the oil filter on a 1980 suzuki gs750l?

Isn't that the kind where the oil filter is between the center two exhausts? It's small, about two and a half inches across, and right where you burn your knuckles on the hot exhaust, right? I love Suzis, but I'm not thrilled with this design feature.

Changing the oil is not difficult, but it could be a good thing to have a Chilton's or Hayne's to guide you.

I'm thinking about getting a 2000-2003 Tundra. How much harder is it to change the oil compared to a Dodge?

I have a 1992 Dodge Dakota, my sister drives a 2000 Ford Focus, Mom drives a 2000 Dodge Caravan and Dad has a 1999 Chevy Silverado. Of the ones listed, the Focus is the hardest to change because the filter is in some really stupid spot. My Dakota is not far off because it's so high up there.

Sooo, is the Toyota Tundra pretty comparable or easier to change oil and filter than any of the ones I already know?I'm thinking about getting a 2000-2003 Tundra. How much harder is it to change the oil compared to a Dodge?Easy. The filter is not hard. If its a V8 it is under the skid plate which is held on by 5 12MM bolts. When you take that off the filter is right in front of you and is very easy to take off. The drain plug is cake. it sits right in on the oil pan and points down with nothing blocking it.

If its an early V6(5VZ-FE) 4WD then its hard as the oil filter is in a high point of the engine and can be hard to get to as there is stuff in the way. The drain plug is still easy. If its a later V6(1GR-FE) then its the easiest as the filter sits right on top near the filler. There is a plug on the bottom of the filter housing that you remove and put a bottle under to catch the oil that comes from the filter. After that the drain plug is just like the other ones. It is the easiest of them all.I'm thinking about getting a 2000-2003 Tundra. How much harder is it to change the oil compared to a Dodge?I used to not like changing the oil on the Dodge/ Jeep 5.2 engines because the oil would drain onto some pipe or something, and splash all over the place, and I just wanted to say that so you don't think I have some kind of bias; just being straight up honest here. The Toyota Tundra's aren't a picnic either, in fact, I think they're slightly worse, because the filter is in the front, above a plastic or metal panel, so you need to remove the panel, or reach down from up above. I worked at an oil change place, and the panels were so time consuming to remove and re-install, that we'd use the second method, which sucked, because you can't see the filter from above, and oil would leak down onto the panel, and slowly drip out after the truck was driven away. The best engines to do oil changes on were diesels, because the filters were mounted vertically, and oil would never spill all over the place. The worst engines were Nissans: their filters were a NIGHTMARE to replace. I did do an oil change on a Dodge RAM SRT10 with the 500hp Viper engine: it was very smooth. I quit around June of '05, and I don't remember having done any oil changes on the 5.7 Hemi engines. Dodges are easier.

I overfilled my car engine with motor oil and did not change the oil filter. Can this damage my car?

A few months ago, I noticed my oil was low, so I bought 5 qts of cheap oil and added it to my engine instead of taking it for an oil change. It ran fine for the past few months..This weekend I had my water pump, serpentine, and timing belts changed. The mechanic told me, the motor oil was overfilled and recommended I get an oil change. There wasn't any oil leak. So today I had a high mileage oil change at WalMart. They also told me my oil was over filled when they checked it, and that I have an oil leak.Again, yesterday there was no leaks. Now I have a big oil leak, and my car shuts off when I am idle. What could have happened? Did walmart mess up my oil change? or could it have been the mechanic who changed my belts? or am I to blame for being cheap and changing my oil myself and overfilling it without changing the filter?.Also how do I fix this. Please HelpI overfilled my car engine with motor oil and did not change the oil filter. Can this damage my car?overfilling is just as bad as not enough. and you should always change the oil filter whenever you change the oil. just unscrew your oil plug and let some run out, into a container or course.I overfilled my car engine with motor oil and did not change the oil filter. Can this damage my car?Overfilling the oil can damage the piston rings among other things. I suggest draining the oil to the correct level. I would never change the oil without changing the filter. You car must have been almost empty of oil to require that much oil.I overfilled my car engine with motor oil and did not change the oil filter. Can this damage my car?1 stop trying to blame others for your lack of car care

2 sometimes stuff happens..[ie you walk into a room,,turn on lite,,bulb blows...whos fault? no one]

3 overfilling oil can cause leaks,,bearing damage,,,

4 maybe you need tune up.....I overfilled my car engine with motor oil and did not change the oil filter. Can this damage my car?You live and learn by your mistakes, check your valve covers and clean up the engine to isolate the leak. And do what you can to fix.I overfilled my car engine with motor oil and did not change the oil filter. Can this damage my car?Yes it can damage your seals and you need to look to find the source of the leak the first two areas would be the drain plug bolt area sometimes when being replaced after removal it might not be as tight as it is supposed to be or it was over tightened and stripped, second area would be to look around the new filter area if their is oil leaking around where it is mounted in may not be on as tight as it should be, I have witnessed many times that the technician may have not removed the old filter seal and put another one on meaning you have two seals and the oil could be leaking from that area, the QUALITY OF A 6.00$ AN HOUR EMPLOYEE AT WALL MART or any other company is risky at best, go back to wall mart do not let any one touch the car except because you stated they changed the oil and you did not have a leak prior to the change ask them to re inspect the bolt on the drain pan and the filter area, ask them if the can determine the area where the oil may be coming from if it is a steady leak the should be able to (with flashlights) to determine where it may be coming from, also be Leary if the striped the bolt many times the will not tell you because they were the last company to work in that area and they do not want to eat the repair if needed. Take notes of what they tell you so you can see if they are contradicting any of their responses to you. I do know over filling the oil can lead to many problems with several Items. What kind of car and engine do you have and did the oil leak start after the water pump was changed .. but by all means you need to determine where is the leak coming from that is the starting point ,then we can determine at what stage or part of the repair that may have caused this leak

Remember since you are losing oil check the oil level first thing in the morning before you start the car, you may have to add a little oil to get to your next destination and this is serious as if the oil is dripping on the exaust area it could cause you car to catch on fire.

E-mail me and I will give you my phone # so I can chat with you about this

HAVE A GOOD DAY, JackI overfilled my car engine with motor oil and did not change the oil filter. Can this damage my car?You did this but go and blame wallmart for your lack of knowledge.

How do i change oil on a 90 suzuki outboard?

i need to know how to change oil filter and should i use synthetic oilHow do i change oil on a 90 suzuki outboard?I have heard horror storeys of synthetic oil eating away at the seals and gaskets of older 4 stroke engines but you would think that a 4 stroke rev-ing at 6000rpm + could take advantage of the higher quality synthetic. I would go for it. To change your oil filter, you have to pull the engine cowl. Remove the pin from the latch and the 8 bolts on the starboard side of the mid section to separate the 2 haves. Now you can get to the oil filter. How do i change oil on a 90 suzuki outboard?Definitely use synthetic if you have a 4 stroke---Now the other question. I assume the motor is a 4 stroke. there are 2 ways to do it. Through the crank case plug under the motor. Less messy is to go through the same place you fill the oil--where the dipstick is and pump it up with a pump you will have to buy.

How often do you change diesel oil?

5.9 cummins running mobil 1 15w-40 been changing oil and filter every 3000 miles. I was told by an autozone employee i dont have to change it but every 10000? Whats the deal? How often do you change diesel oil?First you should get the owners manual and read it, No you should not run synthetic since it is not engineered for diesel, When you change the filter you should change the oil, If you change the filter but not the oil, that dirty oil with shorten you oi filters life, And its apparent that the autozone employee is not a dodge mechanic. You wait every 7 or 10 k to change the oil you will fry that engine early

    Read this

and this, and use severe duty schedule

http://dodgeram.org/tech/dsl/filter/oil_How often do you change diesel oil?7000 is about right...How often do you change diesel oil?Read your owners manual and in the service and maintenance section you will have to schedules, the severe schedule is specified for certain driving habits as is the moderate schedule. most drivers may find that the have a balance of driving habits that could fit into both categories. When in doubt follow the manufacturers recommendations for severe maintenance. However if you are servicing your own vehicle I highly recommend that you keep an date and mileage specific log with appropriate checklists as well as receipts for oils and filters etc...Failure to provide this info can result in losing your manufacturers warranty should a problem ever arise. remember the diesel engine is warranted for If I remember correctly it is 6 years or 100,000 miles whichever comes first. but when in doubt the owners manual is the best resource for information and unfortunately the least read. How often do you change diesel oil?Mobil 1 is designed to go more than 3000 miles. However some of the oil is labeled 10 or 15000 mile oil and others just say mobile 1. The higher mileage says it is different oil but im not sure on that. Now last thing to consider have you owned the truck since it was new? How dirty is the inside of the eng? If you change your oil and its really black even after a new oil change? You may want to consider these things and use your best judgment how often to change it. I run my gas 5.9 10,000 miles every oil change with mobile 1 but ive had it since it was new and always taken vary good care of it. If your oil is coal black or very dark brown id change it. Remember color doesn't not always imply the oil viscosity is still there so just check it often and use your besjudgmentnt! How often do you change diesel oil?Dodge recommends 15W40 motor oil that meets API Service CI-4/SH. Below Zero operation 5W40 synthetic is recommended.

For just normal everyday driving, change the oil and filter at 7500 mile intervals. Since diesels are not typically normal everyday drivers, but are designed for hard work, that schedule is cut in half.

Since no recommendation is made by Dodge for a 10,000 mile oil change, I wouldn't waste money on oil that supposedly lasts 10,000 miles when there are many brands that meet the specifications at half the price. Your 3000 mile interval is OK, as it falls within dealer recommendations. How often do you change diesel oil?The first thing I would do is get away from the Mobil 1 oil on your cummins. Every one I've owned I've ran Shell Rotella in with no problems and a 5-10K mile oil change interval. If you're doing strictly in-town driving, then 3-5K miles wouldnt be out of reason. As far as the color, and diesel with blowby will darken the oil almost immediately after a oil change. This is caused by exhaust gases entering the crankcase. The mobil 1 is not a bad oil to run in it, and I run it in all my gas engines, but for 11 qts of mobil 1, you can buy rotella a whole lot cheaper and it lasts just as good. How often do you change diesel oil?ya, anyone who says 3000 miles just wants your money. 6000 miles minimum. Synthetics can go 10-20k miles depending on conditions

  • 1991 Honda Civic DX Oil Filter Change?

Hello. I have a 1991 Honda Civic DX 2 door hatchback with a 1.5 liter engine, could anyone give me detailed instructions on how to change the oil filter, It seems to be in quite a hard spot. Thanks1991 Honda Civic DX Oil Filter Change?the best way to get to your oil filter is when the car is lifted. raise the car on jackstands and slide under the car. when you are right under the car place yourself directly under the motor. if you look behind the motor your oil filter should be visible. it should be a blue filter if you had your service done at honda. if not it should be white or orange. most filters should be hand tightened, but get stuck a bit after normal use. so a oil filter wrench should help. just loosen it a bit and catch the dripping oil with a oil pan/container. once it starts flowing just take it out. good luck.1991 Honda Civic DX Oil Filter Change?the oil filter located behind the block near the firewall. usually you can reach and twisted by hand (lefty loosy, righty tighty). if you cant break the oil filter loose, use a oil filter wrench. g/l

Can i do an oil change myself without messing up?

so i have seen how the do a oil change and change the oil filter i want to do it but can i messed it up??i have seen videos on youtube i think i cna do it but what if i brake somehting, its a 2003 dodge ram cna i brake somehtingCan i do an oil change myself without messing up?An oil change is one of the things every home mechanic should be able to do. You need the proper tools (don't think you can undo everything with pliers), a suitable container to drain the old oil into, and a sheet to catch the mess around the edges. Rubber gloves are a good idea. I do it after a run so the engine oil is warm and drains easily. Take off the filler cap to let air in easily, and unscrew the sump plug VERY slowly, so that you make sure you have got the collecting container in the right place. It's going to be hot oil coming out, so don't jump and drop the sump plug into the old oil. Be careful not to lose the washer on the plug. When the oil has finished draining, remember to put the sump plug back. The final thing to beware of is knocking the container of old oil before you close it. Getting the old oil filter off is easy with the proper wrench. Put a smear of oil on the rubber of the new filter before you screw it back in.

Have fun.Can i do an oil change myself without messing up?No. Oil changes are easy. Likely you'll make a small mess the first time, but you don't deal with easily breakable parts. Just go slow. Can i do an oil change myself without messing up?i've a 2002 ram pop the hood , remove the oil cap on the block, grab a 5/8 wrench, remove oil pan plug, then oil filter. make sure old rubber gasket is on old filter, take some oil and put on the rubber gasket on the new one and fasten you're in!Can i do an oil change myself without messing up?Yes.if u know what your doing i suggest calling your local mechanic and asking if your on the right path. Can i do an oil change myself without messing up?It's much easier to change the oil on American cars, but nevertheless it's always better to get it done professionally. I usually buy oil from a retailer (because it's cheaper) and then bring it to an auto shop, for example, Advanced Auto Service (pretty sure its nationwide). In the end they charge me about $12 for filter and service. Just make sure you buy the right oil before hand. Can i do an oil change myself without messing up?look up in your owners manuel for what type of filter and how much oil. or go to walmart and ask one of the people there in automotive to look up the filter type. drain the oil out of the pan into a bucket of some kind. make sure it holds at least 5 quarts. its better to drain the oil out when the oil is warm so take it for a short ride first, but not too far cause it can get real hot to the touch.take off oil filler cap after draining the oil out, you might need a filter wrench that fits your size filter. after doing that put a little bead of NEW oil on the rubber gasket, hand tighten, then fill with oil prob 5 qts. after that start truck for one min. looking for leaks, check level of oil and add if needed, no you can*t hurt anything unless you don*t do it the way I said. GOOD LUCKCan i do an oil change myself without messing up?Read a manual, it is so too simple. Can i do an oil change myself without messing up?Its not worth it! If you really want to save money then, you can check out http://www.prundo.com for downloading free coupons for oil change, tires, transmission and over 30 other services! Can i do an oil change myself without messing up?Without messing up ,Yes.

Without making a mess ,probably not.

You will need a large tub to collect the used oil, a wrench to remove the drain plug, a filter wrench, some filters can be removed by hand,

and enuff plastic jugs to transport the used oil to an auto parts store for recycling about 5 quarts.

It's kind of fun but messy for average doers. Cat litter can be used to absorb the spilt oil, spread it out, let it sit for a hour and sweep it up and discard.
